Lush Cosmetics Haul.
April 27, 2015
Ever since I became a vegetarian at the start of the year, I’ve been eager to find cruelty free cosmetic and beauty product alternatives to the ones I’ve used in the past. It gives me peace of mind knowing that the products I use don’t approve of animal testing and actively avoid taking part in it. Lush has always been at the forefront of this, for me anyway – although I’ve never needed an excuse to have a browse in their shops… even if just for the wonderful smell alone!
So, when payday rolled around, I took it upon myself to stock up some new products of theirs that I had yet to try. I opted for Rehab shampoo, American Cream conditioner, 9 to 5 facial cleanser, Vanishing Cream facial moisturiser and a French Kiss bath bomb. I went for the smaller versions at first, just in case… and that way it does work out a little cheaper. It can get quite expensive, especially if you’re on a student budget!
First off, I tried the 9 to 5 facial cleanser, followed by the Vanishing Cream. The cleanser itself smells quite refreshing – ideal for those reluctant early mornings! I love the way this applies too and, with its blend of almond oils and dove orchid extract, didn’t feel too heavy and washed off quickly. Another bonus if you’re in a rush! Next up is the moisturiser. I opted for this one because it claimed to set into the skin quickly without leaving any residue, which I thought was a good combination with the cleanser.
I then used the Rehab shampoo, which Lush claim to be a restorative aid that aims to improve the scalps overall condition. I think this has to be my favourite product of the haul, which after every wash leaves my hair feeling amazingly soft and lightweight (and – with fresh ingredients such as papaya, pineapple, kiwi and mango – smelled incredible too!) For some reason, some shampoos can leave my hair feeling really heavy – before I’ve gone to style it. So I can really see this becoming a bathroom staple of mine. I then used the American Cream conditioner, which I run through the ends of my hair and through my fringe to avoid any major frizz – which is literally uncontrollable if I don’t use anything! To me, this smelt like a sweet shop and lingers on the hair until your next wash – so if you’re into sweet smelling scents, you’ll love this! Again I liked how, for a conditioner, it didn’t weigh my hair down but gave it enough TLC to stop me looking like Winona Ryder as Veronica Sawyer during her final scene in Heathers. In short? Not the best look.
I saved the French Kiss bath bomb until last, so I could use it when I really needed a relaxing bath. I’m really into lavender scented soaps, and the design is so cute too, so I couldn’t resist putting this into my basket during my shop. I only used half, as the smell is quite strong (and by that, I mean strong enough to garner the reaction of: “What IS that smell?” from my parents downstairs!) I’ll be picking up another one these soon, just so I can have the house smelling like a field in Provence again!
